Nitpicki

Species Name: Nitpicki
"The Collecting Critters"

Nitpicki | Nitpickies | Nitpickit
singular — plural — collective

Summary

Curious by nature, Nitpickies are an inquisitive, rodent-like species. With a seemingly-endless pocket and boundless amounts of energy, they roam the realms of Lyth with one thought in mind: collect. These critters focus on one type of item and will ignore anything else that doesn't fall within that category. However, their standards are... all over the place, which can lead to some odd collections: perfectly round objects, a specific shade of yellow, things that give off "warm" vibes, etc. It's very rare — impossible perhaps — for two Nitpicki to be looking for the exact same items. However, this is not to say that some collections won't overlap. Nitpickies who share similar or parallel interests may band together to form a Nitpickit. These groups come in all sizes and will travel together, helping one another out in their searches.

Anatomy

✦ Body
Nitpickies are small in comparison to most other Lythians. Standing at an average of two feet, their body shape can best be described as a rounded triangle. They are built to be able to walk on their hindpaws — while picking things up with their opposable thumbs — but are much more agile on all fours. These critters are naturally furred, though the lengths may vary depending on any number of things — genetics, geography, climate, etc.

✦ Ears
Nitpicki ears come in many different shapes and sizes. They are keen and can pick up noise from quite a ways away.

✦ Paw Gloves
All Nitpickies have opposable thumbs and most notably, paw gloves! These gloves are not removable and appear to also be made of fur. The fur, however, is different in texture from the rest of their body, in that it is incredibly dense and soft. Paw gloves come in many different styles and lengths but cover at least the fingers and paw/pedal pad area; their singular pads remain visible through the fur.

✦ Pouch
They're bigger on the inside...

✦ Tail
Tails come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and not all Nitpickies have them!

Design Guidelines

- Nitpickies are furred, though the length and style may vary.
- Their ears come in all kinds of variations, but they always have a pair.
- Cheek tufts are common but not necessary.
- Their paw gloves can differ in style and length but must cover at least their fingers and palms/soles, with their singular paw pad showing.
- A Nitpicki's pouch can vary in size and shape, but the placement is always on its belly.
- Nitpicki tails are varied and some have no tail.

Baby Information

Baby Nitpickies — also called kits — are born looking like furry pollywogs, usually with their eyes fully or half-closed. They only have one pair of stubby limbs covered with paw gloves, which they can waddle around on. However, most prefer to roll around like a ball, using their paws to change direction and stop. Their pouches are present but located on their underside; it is said that the rest of their body is in there, and when it's fully-developed, it pops out! At this stage, baby Nitpickies can already survive on their own but are often found hanging out with other Nitpickies or Kuniklovs.

Design Guidelines
- They are just a ball with two paws, two ears, and maybe a tail.
- Their eyes are usually fully or half-closed.
- Their pouch is already present but under their head-body.

To grow your baby Nitpicki, you'll need to complete their Origin Story Quest!

Origin Tale

Mitzpeko

After — or was it during? — the fall of an ancient realm, a piece of space also fell. It attached itself to a small critter that would become known as the first Nitpicki.

Origin Quest

All Nitpickies are inherently collectors. It doesn’t matter where they were born, what their upbringing was, or their other personality traits. Sometime in their early childhood, a Nitpicki will decide upon a type of object that they will seek out for the rest of their lives. Armed with their sharp senses, sticky paws, and endless pouch, they scour the realms to grow their collection.

How did your Nitpicki choose what to collect? Was it an instantaneous decision or did they go through a couple trials first? Please portray your Nitpicki using their baby design or an adolescent design that’s not quite their adult form yet.
